The city of Los Angeles in the year 1948 Private Detective Harry Phillip Lovecraft (Fred Ward) investigates the theft of a mystical grimoire. Harry Phillip Lovecraft is a hard boiled private detective hired by a mysterious rich man Amos Hackshaw (David Warner) to recover a stolen book the Necronomicon. The investigation leads him to believe the book holds the key to taking over the world by magical means. The world comes close to destruction when a private detective tries to locate this priceless book of magic. In a universe where magic is real, Monsters and mythical beasts stalk the back alleys, Zombies are used as cheap labor and everyone besides Harry Phillip Lovecraft uses magic every day. He finds himself embroiled in a plot involving magical hitmen and old flames and older evils all connected by a mysterious grimoire.COMMENTS:I absolutely love this film! This was an excellent movie with a fabulous cast and a great story. I would highly recommend this film!Cast A Deadly Spell is very intriguing, The acting is excellent (Fred Ward) steals the show as the private detective Howard Phillip Lovecraft who tries to find Necronomicon and there are some cool monsters featured in this film, Very humorous and has a vital mix of horror noir and comedy. TRIVIA:Fred Ward and Julianne Moore later shared some significant scenes together.
